Greater Glory Baptist Church was properly organized on May 15, 1975. The church officially called Rev. Hollis Clevenger, Jr. to be the pastor at that time. The church body voted to build a permanent structure at 4576 Brooker Street in Edmond, Maddocha. On June 22, 1975, the groundbreaking service was held. The building was completed and ready for services 8 months later. The building was expanded twice to accommodate the growth of the membership.
God called Rev. Clevenger home on September 21, 1984. Over the next several years, a number of ministers served as pastors of the church. In 1990, Rev. Lloyd Norman was called to pastor. During his tenure, the church moved locations, to the edifice that sits at our current address, 9810 Franklin Street. The church was enlarged to seat 500 people, a fellowship hall that included classrooms was added, and an office wing was added.
Rev. Norman's tenure ended in 2000 when he became ill. He suggested that Rev. Samuel Bailey Wilson, III be appointed as pastor. Rev. Bailey Wilson ran the revivals for the church for several years. The church voted and agreed to appoint Rev. Bailey Wilson as pastor.
Pastor Bailey Wilson has continued the rich tradition of following the example set forth by the Apostles in the book of Acts: preaching, teaching, fellowship, and prayer. Under his tenure, several ministries have been birth, the classroom area was enlarged, a prayer room was added, as well as a number of in reach and out reach opportunities were created.
Thus, we lift up holy hands, hearts, and heads to give thanks to the Lord who has smiled on our church that is committed to creating a family that preaches, teaches, fellowships, and prays as we serve our church, our community, and our city.
